June 2009 Pastor
David and Carla Schick return to the USA, having finished a 5 year mission in Bratislava Slovakia. Read their final update
and we wish them a smooth transition back home.

The Easter letter from David and Carla Schick , our missionaries
in Slovakia, has arrived. Read about Green Thursday. Learn how this international congregation will worship
during this Lenten/Easter Season. Read the story of a refugee from Cameroon and why the song Abide With Me is so important
in her life.
August 12, 2007
Missionaries David and Carla Schick request prayer
for the refugee members of their congregation. Pray for the effectiveness of the Slovak Lutheran Church's
ministry to the Gabchikovo refugee camp. Pray that those who have waited so long may be granted asylum,
and that God will grant them patience and strength while they wait.
March 2007 Bible update.
"The books you sent have
finally been delivered to their new homes. The Bibles were delivered to the high school last Thursday. Josh Auchenbach, David's
associate pastor who teaches religion to the younger students, was the one who distributed the Bibles. (The older students
had received their Bibles in the past, but we had none for the younger students.) Josh
took pictures when he passed the Bibles out, and I will ask him to send the pictures to you directly. The Bibles were a good
size; it has been my experience as a youth services librarian that teens like their books to be compact. Students had been
told the Bibles were coming when we first heard you were willing to buy them, and some had been asking Josh "are they
here yet?" on a regular basis.
Thank you again for all that you do for
us in Slovakia; we appreciate your prayers probably most of all. May God bless your ministry as you continue to be a blessing
to the church here in Slovakia.
Love, Carla (and David)
January 31, 2007. The Learning Circles and Stephen Ministry are pleased to
announce that 200 Bibles were sent to the students at the Lyceum in Bratislava, Slovakia. CEV Youth Edition Bibles were shipped
this past week. Sixty of Pastor David's students who were enrolled in his Bible classes were without Bibles. Also, Bibles
were desperately needed by students attending Chapel at the school. A JOY to share God's Word with those who want to hear.

| Modra Cross |
When Pastor David and Carla Schick visited our congregation, they gave us a Modra
Cross in appreciation of our congregation's financial and prayer support. Modra means "blue" in Solvakian; thus,
Blue Cross. It was hand made in the city of Modra. The cross is hanging in the Narthex next to the world map and pictures
of our missionaries, Pastor David and Carla.
Oct 2006. If you or your congregation plans to send us donations
of green hymnals (LBW's), blue songbooks (With One Voice), books for the seminary,
or any other resource, please contact us first by email. The person who has been receiving
the books for us will be moving, most likely within a couple of months. We may have to give you a different address, depending on how soon you would be able to mail the books. Thanks!

Here they are in the world!
Excerpt from April 2006;
The cataloging of the seminary library where Carla works hit a milestone in recent months – we catalogued our 10,000th
book! That may not sound very exciting to many, but it is very significant for the ministry of the Lutheran Church in Slovakia.
It means that books that were previously inaccessible can now be found and put to use. A bigger problem now is the books themselves.
Most of them are in German (since Bratislava was historically German-speaking for so long) and are from the 1800's and
the first half of the 1900's. The library is really in need of English language theology books published in the last five
years. English is quickly exceeding German as the second language here (not much is published in Slovak). If anyone would
be interested in donating recently published theology books, please let us know. At this time the seminary has little money
for new books.

year we put on a big Thanksgiving dinner for all of our missionary volunteers. This celebration took place
at the cafeteria of the seminary where Carla works.

8. David frequently co-officiates
at bi-lingual, multi-national weddings together with his Slovak colleague, Pastor Anna Polckova. In this wedding the bride
was Slovak and the groom was Dutch.
