The ELCA Haiti Earthquake response.  Rev. Hanson's update January 15,2010
Here is the Presiding Bishop's page, on which you can view updates and Videos.

Health Kits for Haiti  I know many of you have been interested in how you can help with the relief effort in Haiti.  We at Bethlehem have decided one way we can help immediately is through collecting the items needed for Health Kits which will be distributed through Lutheran World Relief.

Click here for a flyer with the needed items.  Beginning this Sunday, January 24th and for some time to come, please bring any and all items which you want to contribute for the health kits.  You can bring multiples of one item i.e. six washcloths or a complete health kit and leave it in the area of the giving tree.  There is a box immediately to the right of the giving tree table which we'll use to collect all contributed items.  Various groups of Bethlehem including BAG, BWELCA and Revolve will sort and pack the health kits.

We are also accepting checks and cash which will be used to ship the health kits to the U.S. distribution point and then on to Haiti.  Please make checks out to Bethlehem Lutheran Church, in the memo line write - for Health Kits for Haiti.  There will be a box on the giving tree table in which to put cash or checks or checks can also go in the collection plates. Thank you for your participation, Kim Oswald.

Note: Special Sunday Service time March 14 at 10 a.m. (And Day Light Savings Begins!)

Pastor Daren will be installed by Bishop Murray Finck at the one special service at 10 a.m. (There will still be an 8 a.m. service).  A Celebration Pot-Luck Brunch will follow the Installation Service. Please bring either an egg casserole, a fruit salad or platter, or breakfast breads such as muffins, bagels or croissants. Food can be dropped off in the Family Center before the service. TACO needs our help!  Please plan ahead and join us to help the wonderful TACO team serve those in need on Monday, March 8.  That's an afternoon off for some schools for parent/teacher conferences, so some of our kids may be able to join us.  We'll meet at First Lutheran Church (downtown at 3rd and Ash) at 3:30PM.   No cooking involved -- all that's needed is a friendly face and willing hands.  Questions or need a ride?   Call Lori Cook, 760 918-2401 (home) or 760 207-0432 (cell).   Many thanks to everyone who has so generously donated warm clothing and shoes!

Communion Classes - Communion Classes for 1st to 3rd grade students as well as 4th to 6th grade students who have not participated in the past will be held April 22 and 29 from 6:00 to 7:30 in the Multi-Use Building. Contact Kim Oswald, kdoswald@blcenc.org for more information.

Chancel Caregivers needed:  This peaceful, giving service fits any lifestyle!  Caregivers set up for, and clean up from, the communion meal at each of the three Sunday services.  Caregivers are paired for each Sunday, and serve only five or six times in a six month period.  The schedule is published twice each year, so you know your scheduled service well in advance, and can trade assignments with other caregivers if necessary. Training is simple and takes only a half hour, scheduled at your convenience.  Please email houck3@cox.net  or call Rhonda Houck (760) 415-2134 to join our committee.
