On Campus Projects
School
Bag Preparation - stuff school bags with supplies for needy children in our community. We assembled 105 school kits, had about 18 participants,
and already have a head start on supplies for next year.
Toiletry
Kits for T.A.C.O. - Assemble toiletry kits for the Third Avenue Charitable Organization. 158 toiletry kits were put together.
This year we have many more leftover items to contribute to TACO for their own assembly of toiletry paks. Each
pak contains 5 basics plus a miscellaneous item. We have many more bags of toothbrushes, toothpaste, soap, deodorant,
razors, shampoo, lotion, etc. to contribute that they will combine with other donations to assemble toiletry paks
at TACO. I'm so pleased and very touched with the most generous outpouring of donations from our Bethlehemians,
as they call us!
Pajama Project
- join this award-winning project for a morning of cutting flannel and assembling pajama kits. Experience cutting out patterns
would be especially welcomed but there will be activities for the enitre family to participate.
21 people helped to create 64 pajama kits.
Prayer
Shawl Ministry - join this special ministry for a morning of knitting/crocheting and fellowship (not recommended
for children under 10). Prayer Shawl
Ministry had 6 people not including previous members. We taught 2 young girls how to knit and recruited 3 new members for
the ministry.
Meals
with Love - prepare hot meals for delivery to local shut-ins and others in need of a lovingly prepared meal (not
recommended for children under 10).
Bicycle
Repair/Refurbishment for CRC - the Community Resource Center will provide children's bicycles that need cleaning
and repair or refurbishment. The CRC will provide spare parts and an electric pump for tire inflation. Tools will be available.
Have your own tools? Bring them along. This is a good project for the entire family. We had 18 to 20 volunteers and recieved 60 kids bikes to work on. About
45 were repaired and cleaned and ready to go. About 5 needed parts and further work and the remaining 10 were either
DOA (i.e. any bike with cables that has spent more than a month stored outdoors in SD needs a complete recableing, which
is beyond the scope of any but the most advanced home bike repair person) or we just didn't have people to get to them.
Cudos go to all our volunteers but I want to make special mention of our youth, Peter Reynolds and Eric Lawver. Peter
took control of the final cleaning, lubing and polishing station and did a great job directing a crew of energetic boys.
Eric directed loading the truck. Bob Lund and Geoff Doyle had some great insights for our next bike repair foray. Along
with Eric, Geoff and Bob; the Ensberg boys (all 3) hung in until the bitter end and the tailgate was rolled down! Thanks again
to all! In Christ (and grease!)
Hand
chime / Singing Serenade of Seniors - spend an hour with our music director, Mona Goetsch, as you learn to sing along
with hand chimes. You will then travel to a local senior center to serenade the residents.
Potted Plants for Bethlehem Neighbors - this project if for the
children. Kim Oswald will be in Dot's Garden where the children will put plants and flowers in to decorated pots. These potted
plants will then be delivered to our immediate neighbors. 14 participants made and handed out 40
potted plants to our neighbors.
Food
Sorting for CRC - the Community Resource
Center will have a truck containing food items that were donated during the recent U.S. Postal Service food drive. The food
items will be taken off of the truck, sorted, and put back into the truck. A great project for the whole family.
