Habitat House - 2009

The following 12 volunteers spent Saturday June 13th working for Habitat For Humanity. Twenty new homes are being built in Libby Lake Village in Oceanside with 5 homes already completed and the second 5 in progress. We worked on one of the several homes sponsored by Thrivent Lutheran. Starting at 8:30 with a safety indoctrination conducted by Greg Tiller, the site supervisor and a brief prayer led by a volunteer, we all turned to the task of building and landscaping. Teams worked on paneling outer walls and moving top soil to various sites. Lunch was of the brownbag variety and by mid afternoon, a lot had been accomplished toward finishing the first floor walls. We only hope that it passes the Oceanside building inspector who was due early the following week.

Habitat is always looking for volunteers at this site. If you have some spare time and would like to help a worthy cause, just show up at 8:30 at the site right behind 4700 N River Road any Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday or Saturday.

Lutheran Men in Mission - Summer 2009

Lutheran Men in Mission - Winter 08-09

A big thank you to all the men and women who participated in our most recent men's group service project with Habitat for Humanity. How wonderful it was to be out there building an house with all of you on behalf of our Bethlehem Church and of course in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, who tells us about his Father's house and the many rooms it has for us!

Upcoming:
At our last meeting, Bruce Dugmore spoke to us about this autumn's Harvest Festival at Bethlehem, and the possibility of a Men's Group barbecue cook-off, which would provide the majority of the food as well as be a major fund raiser for the event. Our members would be responsible for providing the ingredients and grilling them up on site, which would not only nurture the community with food and our church with funds, but would also give great exposure to our men's group.

When this was discussed at our meeting as a concept, it was given a favorable preliminary response. Now we must make a decision together whether we will play this role or not, as the committee planning this Harvest Festival need to move forward. Bruce was instrumental in forming this men's group and I believe as men we should respond as men to his appeal with a great "Yes! we will be the Bethlehem grill masters!."
