The Annual Meeting of the Congregation will be held on Sunday, January 24th, 2010 at 9:50 am (click here for pdf of materials for Meeting).

Council member, Tim Staycer handles the property maintenance task and as such, oversees the repairs and schedules work parties. If you see a needed repair item around the Church, you may email the council here and include Tim's name in the subject line. Your request is appreciated and will be put on a repair item list.

Associate Pastor Update:As you remember, at our Annual meeting we passed a budget that included a part-time associate pastor. We are now interviewing candidates for that position. The interview team consists of: Dennis Astroth, Dianne Nichols, Daren Erisman, Sarah Jessop and Pastor Laura. We hope to have a person in place by mid-summer to join our ministry here at Bethlehem.

On a recent Saturday, nineteen leaders of our congregation – including Pastor Laura and members of the BLC staff, Congregation Council and Transition Team – participated in a retreat designed to help them get their new relationships off to a “healthy” start. Read the report here.

We might be half way through the year, but it certainly seems we are at a new beginning.

Everything is new at Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Pastor Laura Ziehl has been successfully Called and Installed as our new Pastor. She is as excited to be here as we are to have her. Pastor Laura, along with her husband Daren Erisman, and daughters Emily and Linnaea are settling into their new home and easily adjusting to ......

A Message from the Congregation Council President    (excerpt)

 

This is the first in what I hope to be a quarterly message from the Bethlehem Lutheran Church Congregation Council. It’s a newsletter of sorts. I know before I joined the Council I had little idea of what the Council did and what was going on in the church at the decision making level. My hope is that this quarterly letter will give you some insight into what is happening at our church and what decisions are being made about our future together........

The Congregation adopted a 2008 budget of $736,414 which at this point is $48,000 short of anticipated income. Some of the budget items for pastoral assistance, additional youth ministries, and other new items will not be authorized unless the giving is sufficient to support those expenditures. So we are waiting for some pledges that have not been received yet and are hoping that members in general will rise to occasion to support the challenge. For the year 2007, the Congregation’s income was $667,606, and our expenditures totaled $667,160.

On Sunday January 27, 2008 we installed those elected last Sunday to serve on the Congregation Council:  Dennis Astroth, Matt Dickerson, Karin Kloehn, Audrey Murphy, and Dianne Nichols.  Continuing on Council are Chacha Appel, Jim Behun, Jim Cowles, Doug Derouin, Bruce Dugmore, and Dee Smith.  Our officers for 2008 are Bruce Dugmore, President; Dennis Astroth, Vice president; Jim Cowles, Treasurer; and Dee Smith, Secretary.  Areas of responsibility will be Jim Behun, Stewardship; Doug Derouin, Properties; Dennis Astroth, Worship & Music; Chacha Appel, Youth and Children's Ministries; Dianne Nichols, Fellowship and Evangelism; Audrey Murphy, Social Concerns; Matt Dickerson, Adult Education and Spiritual Growth; and Karin Kloehn, Communications.

The annual congregational meeting is scheduled for January 20th at 9:50 am.  See the proposed Council 2008 list below.  Please plan to attend and be part of the quorum this year. ( 'quorum' = a fixed minimum percentage or number of members of a legislative assembly, committee )

From Dennis and Margo Astroth; Attached is our report of our attendance at the 2007 Pacifica Synod Assembly. Margo and I are ready to provide a summary report before the congregation, if needed. I know Margo is looking forward to demonstrating some new found ministry tools. While in Hawaii we saw Pastors Molly and Doug Knutson-Keller. Both are doing well and Betsy and Dexter are getting big.
